Augmented Reality
Have you ever used a funny filter on social media to make it look like you’re wearing sunglasses or have a mustache? Maybe you’ve caught a Pokémon using your phone while exploring a city. If you have done either of these things, then you’ve used what is known as augmented reality. We figured why stop there? Take your two-dimensional, flat paper or digital maps, and bring them into the 3-D realm of computer-generated content within real world spaces.
The video above displays how augmented reality can be used to view mapped city assets. It is particularly helpful in the location of snow covered or buried assets and also helpful in the location of assets at night.
Another way augmented reality can be helpful is in viewing proposed construction. In the video above, you will be able to see where the proposed driveway and building sit on the land in relation to the existing utility lines running nearby.
